CHAPTER VI: DEBACLE IN THE DOCKING BAY (Part II)

Even though Kafforl couldn't see his eyes, he could feel the Sith glaring at him. Not sure how to proceed, he remembered this freighter was equipped with an external loudspeaker and receiver system. Helpful if repairs need to be made, and someone inside needed to talk to someone working on the hull of the ship, or vice versa. Birso reached to his right and flicked the system on.

"Are you the one who killed my Master?" The Padawan's voice echoed throughout the bay. The black-clad figure said nothing, nor change his stance, or do anything to acknowledge the question.

"Foolish Learner." The Sith thought to himself. Confident in his own abilities to shield his thoughts from his enemy within the ship. "Little does this youngling know that all which has transpired here was by our design. We acquired the holocron some time ago, how and where is not important. Whereas most weaker Sith would just fly with it to their masters, showing off their prize and begging for favor. We do not operate that way. We saw this as a perfect tool to lure the Jedi out. Out in the open, separated from the main herd, where they become weak and vulnerable. It was no mere coincidence the Besalisk received such an item. Everything proceeded as we had foreseen it. We allowed it to fall into the hands of a Jawa, from there, he sold it to an Arcona, who in turn, lost it in a Sabacc match to a Defel. It was then stolen from him by a Snivvian, who died during the robbery, but not before transferring it to his partner, a Devaronian. The Devaronian used it as payment at the Besalisk's bar to settle his substantial tab. The Besalisk somehow realized what exactly he had acquired, made the appropriate inquiries, and soon thereafter, the Jedi arrived. Every step in this process was carefully and meticulously observed by us to this end. But the Jedi will have no use for this knowledge...he will not survive to pass it on."

Birso was just about to repeat his question when he saw the Sith raise his arms to his hood and slowly pull it down. What greeted him next made him wish the hood had remained in place. He was definitely human, white, about forty standard years in age. His hair was trimmed very short, close to the scalp. His pale facial features were covered in small scars, as if he had been slowly and methodically tortured with a vibroblade. His yellow eyes peered out at the Iktotchi from two sunken black sockets. His hands then dropped into the folds of his robe, to his belt, as he detached two small lightsabers. The hilts were barely longer than the width of the palm of his hand. Igniting them, Kafforl saw they were both double-bladed, though the blades were decidedly smaller than the standard lightsaber, due to the smaller power core. Even though they were diminished in size, being able to wield two twin-blades simultaneously would make him quite a formidable foe. It also dawned on him that this was not the one who killed his Master, for the one who defeated Master Hant used a single blade with a normal sized hilt.

"Is this one the Master...or Apprentice?" Kafforl said to himself. Thinking if he asked the Sith, he would get the same response as he had the previous question. "No," he surmised, "this Dark Lord had only one thing in mind." Birso wasn't going down without a fight. He turned off the speaker system and very slowly, reached over to a switch located by his left knee. Immediately, a hatch at the base of the ship, under the cockpit, opened revealing an antipersonnel repeating laser. The gun was motion activated, it located and locked on its target, and began firing. Laser blasts slammed into the permacrete walls as the Sith spun and dove, flipped and dipped, avoiding the deadly beams. The gun tracked his movement, but was always one millisecond behind the agile Dark Lord. The Sith then jumped, with the aide of the Force, and landed with a clang on the topside of the ship. The laser spun round and around, but could not locate its intended prey. So it simply retracted back into its hiding place. Birso, didn't know where exactly the Sith was, but knew he was a sitting duck strapped into the pilot's chair. He fumbled for the release latch, got himself unhooked, and was scrambling for the main hold as a crimson blade smashed through the front viewport...
