CHAPTER IV: THE LEGEND OF THE MASTER

"The time of Darth Ruin was over 1,900 years ago," Sidious began, "After Revan, but before Bane. The Jedi were many...and the Sith were few. What didn't help matters was all the constant in-fighting amongst themselves. They didn't need the Republic to bring about their downfall, they were doing a good enough job by themselves. Now at the time, the planet of Alderaan was governed by a human named Aashen Bey. He was well liked by his staff as well as his subjects. What most didn't know were his secret addictions, particularly sabacc tables and the Twi'lek dancing girls. Though he could not indulge in both simultaneously. His enthusiasm for Sabacc was only matched for his ill luck at playing the game, and soon fell into debt with a vile crime lord of the day, Vorassa the Hutt. Now the Hutt was only too happy to waive his dept, providing Bey assisted him in various...transactions. Quite often Alderaan was used as a waypoint to transport illegal spice and arms. Their Governor just had to make sure everything looked legitimate in the Senate. He also acted on the Hutt's behalf when it came to various tax issues and referendums, and to get other governing bodies to side with his cause so the majority vote would always swing their way. Now since most of Aashen's finances were lost at gambling tables or spent in the pleasure palaces, the Hutt had to provide the necessary payment to assure the proper palms remained greased, so business would continue to run smoothly. Bey was merely the delivery boy. Unfortunately, Bey got greedy and started to keep a small percentage of what the crime lord had given him. When the Hutt found out, he was not at all pleased."

The Emperor rose and slowly walked around the room as he continued. "The crime lord decided to cut his losses and contacted the GenoHaradan Assassin Guild to deal with him. Express instructions were given that Bey "suffer". Now it's believed the gangster meant for the assassin to torture and kill Bey. However the assassin, a human lowlife scum by the name of Cran Denis, didn't see it that way. He believed that suffering and death were as different as light and dark. He didn't believe one could suffer in death, and for one to truly suffer, would have to remain very much alive. So Bey returned home one night to find his wife and four children brutally slaughtered. None of the guards or staff heard a thing as the deed was done without a shot ever having been fired. Now it was Bey who was not pleased.

"Another little known fact Bey kept well hidden was that he was a Sith sympathizer. Doing what little he could to aid their cause and make sure all dealings remained under everyone's radar. He went to his contact and begged that the Sith intercede on his behalf. He pleaded for justice for his dead family." Palpatine stopped his walk, then turned to face Vader. "Who did he think we were? The Jedi?" Sidious snorted, then went on. "The Sith however, were less interested in seeking retribution for their compatriot, and more interested in Bey's youngest child, who showed early signs of being Force-sensitive. Plans were even underway to kidnap the child and train him as a Sith. So they were very displeased a bounty hunter had taken their prospect from them so needlessly. A Dark Lord by the name of Darth Vortex was sent to...punish, the assassin." The Emperor returned to his chair next to Vader and sat. "Darth Vortex...never returned."

"Vortex was a powerful Dark Lord, knowledgeable in the force, and skilled in lightsaber combat. Yet whomever this Denis was, managed to strike him down with ease using...Force lightning. Now this bounty hunter became someone of interest to the Sith. They found him in a little Mos Eisley Cantina and persuaded him to meet with Darth Ruin himself. Upon meeting face to face, Ruin knew right away this scum was strong with the Dark Side. He convinced Denis to join the Sith and shipped him off to Umbara, to be trained as a Sith assassin. He took the name of Darth Danno and trained there for almost three years. Then the Sith lost contact with the academy there. Ruin sent a Darth Contagion to investigate. He reported back that the entire academy had been killed, every master, student, everyone. The Sith archives that were housed there were missing also. Danno was nowhere to be found. He was believed to be responsible for the crimes, but many thought it hard to believe that one man could have taken out an entire Sith academy. He left no documentation explaining his actions, nor any clue as to his present whereabouts. The Sith were too few to mount a full scale investigation and/or hunt for the fugitive. So they just cast him from their minds and refused to even acknowledge him ever even being part of the Sith. Some refused to forget though, and plotted their revenge, biding their time waiting for their spies and informants placed throughout the galaxy to bring word of his re-appearance. Three years passed and still no sign. Many believed him now dead, or such a coward, he feared to show his face in public ever again. Then, on Tatooine, he made his presence known once more, and this time, he was not alone..."
