Howdy, CCs resident nimrod
is chiming in after a few weeks off. I know, I know, I said it
would only be one week BUT hey... I lied. This column will be
a catch-up piece with random thoughts SO try an keep up.
Fourth Film Curse: A while back I did a
column talking about the "Curse of the FOURTH FILM"
and I stated that this was a very important point in a film franchise
and that it is usually the worst film of a saga (if they make
them past 4 films). I said that TPM was the 4th film in the Star
Wars saga and thus far... THE WORST film in the saga. I sited
many examples of good and bad 4th films BUT many of you felt
compelled to e-mail me with other 4th film examples. To everyone
who wrote about Nightmare on Elm St./Halloween/Anyotherfiriggin'horror
franchise being a good or adequate sequel I need only reply with
this: What the hell are you smokin' and HOW MUCH IS IT FOR AN
OUNCE!!! Hey, I do not hate horror films, don't get me wrong.
I actually LOVE them BUT NEVER has there been a good follow up
to ANY of the original horror films! Not any Elm St. or Hellraiser
or Halloween, nor any Kong or Dracula or Godzillia (OK... maybe
Godzillia) BUT as a rule, the horror series PEAKS with the first
film. A few said that Episode One was their favorite chapter
in the sacred saga and a GREAT fourth film, to these people is
have this to say: While it is an OK film and it is Star Wars
which makes it better then most stuff RIGHT OFF THE BAT, it is
still very flawed. And is that bowl cashed? Cuz if you think
TPM is the best in the saga, you are stoned!
I still have not seen The Phantom Edit
(not any version)
In regards to the spoiler column I wrote,
I have never gotten as much e-mail as I did from that column
and I thank everyone for responding, please keep it up... I love
getting your mail and reading your opinions. The result is about
even HOWEVER slightly more people seem to be avoiding spoilers
rather than reading them. Most folks avoiding spoilers felt the
way this reader felt: "The excitement of the unknown. The
excitement of exploration. Learning something new. Being surprised.
I think being let down is better than knowing what will happen.
It at least causes some kind of emotion. I hate coming attractions
for movies that I see. (always some of the best scenes) I will
not look at any spoilers for E2." While those of us reading
spoilers felt as if the more that is known the better, with less
of a chance of disappointment. I also got an e-mail from a reader
that pointed out my many gammerical mistakes. Thak U forr your
veryvery very helpful insite too my unliminited shortcommings,
I will tak the advise to harte.
Why did Raiders of the Lost Ark turn 20
years old AND NOT GET A NATIONAL RE-RELEASE??!! It would have
BLOWN Tomb Raider away!
The following films ROCK... go see them:
Memento, The Fast and the Furious, Shrek, and A.I.
The following films ROCK... go rent them:
Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Unbreakable, The Pledge and Snatch.
October 2001 might be the best month of
my life! The first official Star Wars DVD, The Godfather saga
on DVD, the X-box will be released with an SW game and a new
Oddworld game at launch AND I am getting married to the most
wonderful lady on the planet. I will celebrate my nuptials in
front of my closest friends and family. If the Cleveland Indians
can make it to the play-offs.... OOHHH LALA! I can't wait till
October.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the
Death Star has some pretty lame security. I mean, R2-D2 is able
to jack right into ALL of their info: where Leia is, where the
tractor beams are, where the trash compactor is. I think that
the most powerful force in the galaxy could use a little more
sophisticated security.
Well, I think that about does it for me
today, next week I will be back with an actual topic... till
then keep a smile on your face and you hands in your pants....
