Droids Custom DSD: A totally new accomplishment!

The stripping of the figures continues... I have maybe 5 more that still stubbornly hold onto their chrome. After almost THREE WEEKS soaking! But I see progress each time I start scrubbing.

As I was scrubbing one of them I noticed a problem that I'd overlooked when I bought it. The left heel behind the peg hole was completely missing! Snaped off! And I was just crestfallen thinking I'd need to find a replacement. I really should have taken a "before" photo but... missed opportunities.

I started brainstorming if I could use some kind of putty or something to fix it... then it came to me. I cast plastic all the time for my coins! Maybe that'll work!

I figured I could get a pretty good seal with some masking tape. And my original plan was to put a drill bit backwards into the existing peg hole and cast around it. But I was worried... this was such a tiny, thin sliver of plastic. When I pulled out the bit it was too likely the fix would just break off. So I poured it without it.

I let it set for about 30 minutes, and here's how it came out:

Not bad! It leaked around the tape a bit, but It filled in the damage nicely. It just needed a bit of clean-up.

I broke off the biggest chunks with pliers, ground the foot flat on my grinding wheel, then carved the rest away with a razor. And in the end I'm super happy with how it turned out! The eventual owner would be hard-pressed to notice any difference unless they look at the peg hole. I was temped to drill one, but again it's such a thin bit of plastic I don't want to break it. So one of you guys out there get the one-of-one super awesome single-peg-holed variant!
