Star Wars Celebration (Thu)

Originally I had planned to go out to Ca. the beginning of the week before the con to spend some time at the Disney parks, but when I found out I'd be working at that time, I didn't want to take that much time off of work. My next thought was to catch a red-eye very late Wed night or early Thu morning to be out there by the time the con started but found out John Wayne airport wasn't a 24 hour airport and ended up having to catch a flight out of O'Hare at 8:26 am Chicago time, and that would put me out in Anaheim @ 10:46 California time. My friend Barry was going to accompany me, but he had some health issues arise as of late that caused him to bow out of going, so I was doing this con "on my own". Image

The block of hotel rooms/hotels through the Celebration website sold out quickly. I kept waiting and waiting for more rooms/hotels to become available, but when none did, I decided to book my room on my own, and got a reservation at the Hotel Fullerton Anaheim. It was after I did that that I found out the hotel was 5.3 miles away from the convention center, so that was too far to walk back and forth, I had no plans to rent a car, and once I was there, I was going to stay until I was ready to leave for the day, no Ubering back and forth multiple times in a day.

After I got off the plane and grabbed my suitcase, I went up to the floor where the ride share vehicles (Uber & Lyft) would pick you up, or so I thought. It turns out I was on the floor BELOW the one I was supposed to be on, but I eventually got that sorted out and was soon on my way to the hotel. Upon arriving there, I decided to rest a little bit and let my phone charge before heading over to the convention center.

Once I did head over, I got my wristband and entered the con floor. It was already the afternoon so there was no line to get in. I went upstairs & met with Bill to grab my portion of the patches. Because of me getting there late today, I purposely didn't schedule any autograph or photo-op sessions for Thu. So, I just wanked around the con and saw what there was to see. I had ordered one art print from the Celebration store, went and picked that up, only to find that they give it to you unrolled, not in any sort of tube, and not in any kind of plastic or anything to help protect it, and the last thing I wanted to do was carry it around the con "as-is" because it wasn't a small poster by any means. So I bought a "Rogue One" print that Acme had for sale (one I already have, mind you) solely because it came wrapped in plastic and had a hard backing to it, so I put my Celebration print in there, and that made carrying it around somewhat easier.

I managed to get into the Celebration store, but it was such chaos in there that I decided against buying anything. Plus, I had no interest in waiting in the check out line which looked like I'd spend the rest of the day in that. So I picked up the things I had pre-ordered and pre-paid for when I ordered the pickets (what they had available, that is, as some of the merch never made it in) and left.

My friend Eric has a cousin who went to SWC, and whose name also happens to be Dan, and he procured some extra wristbands for the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" premiere they were having that night, so he graciously gave me one of them. I waited in the line to get into the auditorium, started filing in with everyone, got to a seat, sat down, THEN realized I should have stopped in the washroom first. Normally when such things arose throughout the day at a con, I would just have Barry watch my stuff, but as he wasn't here, I didn't want to leave my backpack, art prints, etc... in the care of some total stranger, so I just decided to "hold it" as best I could.

The show was stupendous! And after they aired the first two episodes, the cast & director came out. I was so far up in the "nosebleed" section, I had to look at the monitors to see who was on stage. Once we were let out, we all were given "Kenobi" posters. I went and used the facilities, then headed out to get an Uber to take me back to the hotel. I had a ticket to the 501st bash that night, but my feet were having no more of this walking nonsense. So, I decided to go back to the room and rest up for Friday. is not affiliated with Lucasfilm Ltd. or any of its licensees... damn them to hell. Can't they see a golden opportunity when they see it?
