The Wookiee Roars - Episode 03

My Nanny liked Gungans.

Ona Jones, my maternal grandmother passed away on the Tuesday before Christmas, and she liked Gungans. While not the biggest Star Wars fans, she did enjoy the movie and would watch them with me from time to time and her favorite film was Episode 1 because she liked Jar-Jar Binks and the Gungans.

Nanny liked Gungans so much that one Christmas, I got her a Gungan Lego set and we put it together at the kitchen table and it sat on her dresser for years... I'm not sure where it ended up when she ran away from home and wound up in the nursing home (true story, ask me over whiskey some day). But she liked Gungans, even Lego Gungans. Image

The point I'm trying to make is not only that Star Wars is Forever, but it is for EVERYONE. Everyone to enjoy as they see fit and your opinions be damned. Far too often, thanks to the modern cancer of social media, Star Wars fans are too quick to judge and argue with each other and outright chastise each other because our opinions on what we like differ.

I for one am no different and hold the following strong opinions:

  • Last Jedi was an epic disaster that not only did it damn near ruin the sequel trilogy by subverting the hope of The Force Awakens and then forcing Rise of Skywalker to spend half its time trying to fix all the mistakes of Episode VIII that it's convoluted and lackluster plot led to a poor finale for the Skywalker Saga; The Last Jedi and Rian Johnson, damn near ruined the all of Star Wars.
  • Admiral Thrawn is the most overrated Star Wars character of all time and in fact, the Zahn Trilogy itself is overrated (except for introducing Mara Jade). I'm glad Disney wiped out most of the EU because 90% of it was dumb (looking right at you New Jedi Order).
  • ARC Trooper Commander Fordo is far, far superior to Captain Rex
  • While a good movie, Solo's new origin story cannot hold a candle to A.C. Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy: Paradise Snare, Hutt Gambit & Rebel Dawn.
  • The 6" Black Series from Hasbro is stupid and never should have seen the light of day. Star Wars figures, real Star Wars figures, have been and always will be 3 3/4".

But hey, guess what? Those are my opinions and I don't give a flying wampa rat's ass if you agree or disagree with them or not. I will do my damnedest not to rob you of your joy as you watch The Last Jedi while clutching your AFA-graded mint in package Black Series Admiral Holdo. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to judge you and probably never asked for your advice because you obviously can't make good life decisions... but I give my word that in the end, I will respect your fandom and not question your joy.

Star Wars is supposed to unite us, not divide us. It has been my pleasure to meet, break bread and share a beer with multiple collectors and fans whom without Star Wars I would have no business hanging out with. But damn it, they've become some of my bestest and goodest friends and I love them for that. Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Conservative, Gay, Straight; I don't give a damn if we can sit at down over a beer and talk about Wookiees & Ewoks. Thanks to Star Wars, I can even include Canadians and New York Jets fans as some of my good friends... I know, even I can't believe it sometimes.

And that's why I love Star Wars.

Look, I'm never going to be the one who wishes for peace and goodwill for men, and hope is definitely not a battleplan... but liberty and freedom, the liberty and freedom to enjoy your slice of Star Wars fandom and not let anyone take that from you without a fight, that's something I can whole-heartily support.

Especially if you're a sweet, old woman who meant the world to me and liked Gungans. is not affiliated with Lucasfilm Ltd. or any of its licensees... damn them to hell. Can't they see a golden opportunity when they see it? Buy us, you fools! You already own our souls and all our money... buy US!!! This site uses Google Analytics.
