THE QUEST REVEALED
As Indy was led toward his mysterious
meeting with his host, he couldn't help but marvel at the technology
that surrounded him, one of the most impressive being the doors
that slid open by themselves. Every once in awhile, he would
see some small droid scurrying about, buffing the floor, and
keeping everything spotless. If this was some sort of hoax, it
surely must have cost a pretty penny to put it all together.
This had to all be fake, didn't it? Each passing moment made
him question that thought more and more.
The protocol droid brought
him into a large room that had an enormous window at one end
which looked out upon the vast cityscape beyond. Indy was so
taken with the view; he didn't notice the dark robed figure standing
off to one side.
"Impressive, isn't
it?" Sidious said.
Indy just nodded his head
as he continued to gaze out at the expanse beyond the glass;
craft of all shapes and sizes flew by at varying speeds and altitudes.
"Must play havoc on the passers-by far below if there's
an accident", he thought.
"We can see with amazing
clarity," Sidious continued. "But from the outside,
this pane looks just like any other piece of metal which lines
this structure. In other words, we can see out, but no one can
see in. Impressive, isn't it?"
Indy finally pulled his
focus away from the glass, and turned to face his captor. "You
want to tell me why you brought me all the way out here?"
"You wish to dispense
with the formalities, I can understand that." Sidious then
turned his attention to the droid. "Leave us." After
it had left, he carried on. "You remember I told you I had
information about our galaxy piped into your subconscious during
your long journey back here?" Indy nodded. "Good. Do
you recall anything about the Mandalorian Wars?"
Indy thought hard about
that topic, trying to see how much he had actually had retained.
"If I remember correctly, they were a race of soldiers,
and mercenaries, bounty hunters, things like that, and they tried
to take over the galaxy?"
Sidious nodded his approval.
"Good, and what do you remember about the Jedi?"
"They were, or are
the guardians of the galaxy. They have the ability to harness
some mystical energy field known as..." The exact word escaped
him.
"The Force." Sidious
replied. "Many thought the Jedi should step in and stop
the Mandalorian invasion, the Jedi however, adopted more of a
wait and see attitude, which created dissention within their
own ranks. Some denied the Order outright and went off to fight
in the war. Two such Jedi were Revan and Malek. With their help,
along with other Jedi deserters, the Mandalorians were defeated,
and the war came to an end. But these two came back changed,
for in their journeys, they had discovered ancient star maps
hidden on various planets. Each map held a piece of a puzzle
as it were, and when all the pieces were put together, it revealed
the location of an unknown world, and something called the Star
Forge. An ancient space station that can create an unlimited
supply of weapons and starships for whomever controls it."
Indy nodded his understanding.
"So you want me to find this...Star Force for you?"
Even though Sidious' eyes
were hidden, Dr. Jones could clearly see the scowl on his face.
"It's Star FORGE, and no, that is not why you're here. You
see, also in their travels, the two Jedi had the opportunity
to touch the dark side of the Force, and they wanted more! To
make a long story short, they turned away from their Jedi teachings
and codes, and became Dark Lords of the Sith. Revan, the more
powerful of the two, took on the mantle of Master, while Malek
became the apprentice. Now, as was common among the Sith, the
apprentice learns from the master until such a time as they see
fit to overthrow them, and assume the role of Master themselves.
The deposed Sith Lord is always killed, so there's not much they
can do to oppose it. Malek saw his opportunity when the Republic,
with the aid of the Jedi, were attacking Revan's cruiser. Malek
ordered his own ship to fire upon his Master's, thus aiding in
the disposal of Revan, and allowing Malek to step into the role
of Master unopposed."
Indy wondered what there
would or could be to make anyone want to become a Sith, but again,
he kept his comments to himself.
"What Malek didn't
know was that Revan had survived the attack, and was captured
by the Jedi, who managed to erase his Sith memories for a time,
and turn him back to the light. Revan, now had the aid of a few
other Jedi, two droids, a young Twi'lek, a Republic Soldier,
and a Mandalorian. They re-traced the steps he and Malek had
made some time before, located the star maps, re-discovered the
location of the Star Forge and the unknown world, fought and
defeated Malek, and destroyed the space station once and for
all."
Indy crossed his arms over
his chest. "So you want me to find this...unknown world,
is that it?"
Sidious brought his covered
face so close to Dr. Jones' face; they were almost nose-to-nose.
"No, Dr. Jones, that is not it. What you are seeking is
far, far more valuable than the Star Forge, and much more powerful
indeed. You see, Sith crave power, the more they have, the more
they want. Quite often, this leads to their downfall, but I digress.
Malek saw the immense power of the Star Forge, but knew that
was nothing compared to the power of the dark side of the Force.
So he sought to figure out a way to combine the two, and was
able to funnel his dark side abilities into the heart of the
Star Forge itself for a brief time, and formed a crystal composed
entirely of dark side energy. A crystal, that when placed within
the hilt of a lightsaber, would create the most powerful weapon
in the galaxy. A weapon that is said to make the user's powers
increase each and every time the blade is ignited. It is a conduit,
a way for me to physically touch, and become one with the Dark
Side! That crystal, Dr. Jones, is what I brought you here to
find!"
