Baldy's Meet & Greet!

Once again, from the bowels of the earth, comes the Meet and Greet Spectacular! I know, I know, it's been two forevers since I actually made an update to this site but so far it seems Mr. Cable has continued to survive without my help. But now, it's a new year and I must make an effort to keep readers at least a tiny bit entertained for a change. Who knows, you people may even learn something from one of my interviews....... yeah right.

This week we get to see the younger, softer side of Star Wars collecting. My interviewee this week is a Rebelscum and Galactic Hunter regular and has a wealth of info at his fingertips. Always ready to lend a hand, it's Tommy!

Baldy: What is your name and where do you live?

TG: Thomas J. Garvey III and I live in Orlando Florida. I spend the summers in historic Cape May, New Jersey.

Baldy: How long have you been into SW?

TG: Since around 1994, when I was 12. I'm 22 now.

Baldy: How long have you been into those silly flowered shirts?

TG: I don't wear flowered shirts! I will admit to having a certain affection for horribly tacky Marvel Comics shirts however. I do have a bunch of those, it makes me easy to spot at airports....or from space.

Baldy: What was your first SW piece and why?

TG: Do you mean the first piece I bought, or the first piece I had?

Baldy: Hey, who's asking the damn questions here?

TG: Soooo sorry.....The first piece I bought as a collector was a loose Han Bespin figure. I've always liked his outfit, it's the best Han figure in my opinion. The first pieces I can remember having as a kid are Micro Collection toys. The Han Stormtrooper micro in particular is very cool.

Baldy: Can I get your sisters digits?

TG: Nope, you can read it off the restroom wall like everyone else. (Oh man, she's going to kill me for that one! :- D )

Baldy: Do you have a focus within your collection and if so, what are they?

TG: I have a focus on both Luke Poncho and on Kea Moll from the Droids line.

Baldy: Any reason why you picked them?

TG: Luke Poncho has always been one of my favorite figures, and I had the oppurtunity to buy a fantastic pre-assembled focus of him. So, it was just a lucky target of opportunity. I got my first Kea Moll piece on the other hand, when I had a 104 degree fever and picked her from a list of Droids prototypes for sale. It's really worked out well for me, because almost no one else knows who she is, let alone cares about her figure.

Baldy: I care about her figure, she's kinda hot.

TG: You stay away from Kea! You aren't her type.

Baldy: Touchy, ain't 'cha? Any reason you keep picking your nose?

TG: I don't believe in delegating responsibility.

Baldy: How many fingers am I holding up?

TG: Just one, and right back at you Baldy!

Baldy: What's your favorite SW item, whether or not it's in your collection?

TG: Well, I'm very fond of the Micro Collection Torture Chamber set. I'd love to get one of those someday. From my own collection, I'd have to say my carded Luke Poncho mock up figure.

Baldy: Any tips for collectors on how to get a good deal on something?

TG: Don't make my mistake, always make sure that the super collector is away BEFORE breaking into his home. I can't stress this enough, jail is a pain, and parole officers tagging along can just ruin a date.

Nah, be persistant. Don't get discouraged because you can't find it, or the seller wants too much for it. You really have to network too. If you are looking for a certain piece, having friends and contacts will really make your task easier. You may even stumble upon something you never knew existed.

Baldy: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

TG: Who cares? They both taste good.

Baldy: Is there really an "Inner Circle" and if so, did you do thier theme song?

TG: As far as you will ever know, NO, there is no Inner Circle. I did write our.....I mean thier theme song once though. Set to the Stonecutter's "We do!" song from the Simpsons. Very powerful stuff. It makes every Inner Circle heart glow with pride. I mean, if there was an Inner Circle, which there isn't.

Baldy: Do you collect anything besides SW and if so why?

TG: I also collect Indiana Jones toys. They were great movies and the toys are really cool. I have a collection of Intellivision video games. Retro gaming rocks and you just can't get cheesier than the Intellivision, pure 80's bliss. I also just started a collection of Super Powers toys. Odd since I don't like DC comics, I've only ever read Marvel. The line just appeals to me for some reason.

Baldy: Is eBay the devil when it comes to buying/selling SW?

TG: eBay? Nope, I'm the devil. Nah, Seriously I prefer buying from friends. I don't think ebay will ever replace that.

Baldy: Do you think the new movie will be good or not?

TG: Do I want it to be good? Yes. Will it be good? Why start making good prequels now?

Baldy: Can you spare some change for the snack machine?

TG: Sorry, all my cash goes to the Inner CIrcle's "Newbie Surpression Budget"....if there was such an organization...which of course, there isn't. .....yes, that will do.....

Baldy: Thanks so much for the time Tommy, now go forth and spread the word of Kea!
