Mr. Cable upgrades to Oscar's Cases!!

A couple weeks ago, I finally completed my set of Vintage Empire Strikes Back figures. There are 29 figures that premiered on ESB cardbacks, and I grabbed the last one I needed, a Zuckuss, from The Earth! And the price was pretty good to boot! I'd been looking for the last 5 or 6 since April and eBay has just been awful, so I was thrilled to find the last one I needed from a great shop like The Earth.

So anyway... I got my 29th ESB carded figure, put them up on my shelves... and well, here's how they looked:

And here's a straight-on view:

It's a great collection... but it looks like CRAP!!!

You can't see anything with those figures in Star Cases. Star Cases are great... nice protection... cheap... but for displaying figures they're sub-par. The reason? Wasted space! Check this out... your average Star Case is 3 inches thick!!

Compare that to one of Oscar's Acrylic Cases. I put my C-3PO collection in Oscar Cases a while ago, and they display fantastic. An Oscar Case is about half as thick.

And who wants wasted space? Star Cases are made now to fit modern Saga figures. Vintage bubbles absolutely swim in them.

Not only are Star Cases significantly deeper... they're also half an inch wider, thanks to the lip around the case.

The lip is great to hold the cases together, but it serves no aesthetic purpose. Not only does it take up a bunch of space, if you look at the figures from the side and all you get is a bunch of lip!!!

So I had a decision to make... how can I get these to display well? Is it worth the cost of investing in 29 superior Oscar's Cases? Well, my successful eBay auctions from a few months ago made it a much easier decision. So after a quick PayPal payment and a wait of a few weeks, I got this big ol' box from UPS:

Now that's a HUGE frickin' box!! Why was it so big? Great packing!!

The cases were not only packed in a pillow of packing peanuts, they were wrapped in cling wrap to prevent rubbing or scratching. And they were even properly labeled by where they were manufactured...

So I had my cases in hand. What did I do with them? How did the figures look on the shelves when displayed? Well... you're going to have to tune in NEXT WEEK to see the results of my case upgrade. But in the mean time, if you want to see what your collection looks like in acrylic, then head on over to Oscar's Cases and order some!
