DragonCon 2004: The Next Epic Adventure!

Last week I left off basically on Thursday/Friday and stopped. This installment should bring us up to speed on most of the rest. Now I may be off on what exactly happened on what day so please bear with me. All the events below did happen but they may have not happened on the day I have stated below. These things happen when you are old and also when you stay up too late past your regular bedtime. Please address all complaints to Bill Cable because he loves hate mail.

Friday started out late because we were up late. I didn't get up till after almost 11:00 am or so. After getting ready I headed out to see who else was up. NO ONE was. After heading downstairs for camera batteries, I saw Chris G. and he was headed back up to get the others. Since all of us weren't moving yet, some people went for breakfast and others didn't. I opted to hang back and just get a snack and wait for lunch. Here is a few of us at breakfast/lunch/food.

Back at the hotel we basically just messed around the dealer rooms and such. Lots of cool stuff to see and it was very busy on the first day. We actually spied some vintage stuff at one booth and he even had a CDN boxed Die Cast Falcon. Too bad we found out it was a reseal and not a good one at that. But the guy had some cool Micronauts as well and it was neat to see those again. I also found a Gentle Giant Bossk bust I wanted so I grabbed it. Shane did a search for some comics and others went to bother the autograph people. Me on the other hand went straight for these!

Can you blame me? Hot, sexy Japanese "film" stars. Read into that what you will. Also, my good friends found a doll for me, or *of* me as they claimed.

Yes, that is a doll named Billy and yes, he is gay and damn proud of it. It's all over the packaging. I guess the guy that sculpted my head last year at DC had to do *something* with it. And I didn't get a dime dammit.

Back in the rooms, we got ready for the main event for Friday, WRESTLING! Last year was really bad but really fun and this year we were promised midgets! So off we went to the main ballroom. Here is a shot of the ring, a bit small but it served its purpose.

The guy in that pic waving a flag was the Canadian Sheik and our Canadian contingent blew up when he came out! Everyone else in the place was booing him and when he got over by us, we erupted with screams of CAN-A-DA! CAN-A-DA! It was too funny. Shane kept badgering him to beat someone over the head with the flag but he never did. What a gimp. The rest of wrestling pretty much sucked except for two guys, one guy supposedly from Jersey and another little guy from Georgia. They worked hard and whipped ass. Now being a wrestling fan is easy but some guys just wont say they are. 3 of them were caught in this pic even tho they will deny ever being there. From left to right are Chris G, Jeff C, and Oscar.

As for the midgets, all we got was a midget referee for a 3 way women's match. One of the women had a good body, the others were pretty scary. So that didn't do it for us. We headed out a little early to catch the freak show in the lobby, and what a show it is. Below are some random pics of some of the costumes:

There were tons more people in the lobby and good old Mike was on a bender. He decided to get all kinda trashed and had his way with many, many chicks. No wait, he didn't. :) He just got pics taken with a bunch of them. Here are the ones I am allowed to show:

Anyways, after all this we crashed out around 2 am and then got awakened by Mr. John A. the next morning. Seems we had a date to see some Star Wars stuff at 1:00 pm and it was getting close. So I went to Shane's room and what do I find but this: Yes that's right, TONS of My Little Pony stuff all over his room! He blamed it on Karlee but we all knew the deal.... Downstairs we had a snack in the food court and then went to see the Episode 3 preview and trailer bit. It was pretty cool and they also showed a lot of previews for new video games and the DVD's for the Original Trilogy and Ewoks/Droids too. During this, Ryan Shaw, a fellow Scummer and extremely good artist/sculptor, dropped in and gave out some goodies. He had made very small Gold Idols from the first Indiana Jones movie and new Ep 3 Trooper helmets. He also made James G a custom Vlix head key ring and made me this from his Sleestak figure! Yes! It's a naked Bossk! Porn Bossk in effect! That was too funny. Ryan didn't stay long and I missed out on meeting him. But it was very nice for him to hook us up with the cool freebies!

After the SW previews, we headed back out for food and decided to get Chinese. A place right across the street was said to be good so we went there. Little did I know that our waitress had it in for me. From the word go all she did was call me "Genius". I have no idea why and gave her no reason to do so. She just kept egging me on with Genius this and Genius that. Everyone else had a great time with it tho. She even took all the orders and walked away, only to remember that she didn't take MY order. She just wanted to bust my chops I tell ya. I am sure my chicken WASN'T chicken and was something else instead. But it tasted good.

Back upstairs, a guy named Will Grief had stopped by and had some things for sale so we decided to go to his hotel room and go thru some stuff. Here's a couple of pics:

I picked up a few Instruction Sheet pieces I wanted and some others got some good stuff like catalogs and loose figures. Oscar got a really nice carded TIE Fighter from Japan. Just after the sale we went back to the main lobby and headed to the Dawn contest. All the first 20 or so contestants weren't that great and since we were back kinda far, we really couldn't see so we went outside and waited till it let out to see the contestants. There were a few good ones including this one in the middle.

Ok, that's enough for you people now. Next week I finish off DragonCon with a bunch more pics and a few more details of our escapades. I also have to get back on track with my Meet and Greet column that I have been ignoring for a while and I have a special surprise for y'all next week! Not only will you get the DC update, you get a Meet and Greet! How much love can one guy have for his dear fans? Not much let me tell you. I am just bored and have nothing else better to do than update this lame site.
