Durge - Thanks for taking the time out for the exclusive
interview Mr. Cable. It's not every day one gets to speak with
a web admin of the suckiest site on the 'net.
Cable - That's very true.
Nobody has spoken to me in weeks. I think it has something to
do with me demoting all the Mods in the CC.com forums.
Durge - Youre lucky Im not a Mod. So, youve
reached youre 75th illustration. Whats next?
Cable - I think I'm going
to jump straight to 100. I got so much good press off 75...
Durge - I don't think anyone would notice anyway...
So Bill, tell me, which "Cable Original" is your favorite?
Cable - I'll get my ass kicked
if I don't say Ice Cream Maker Guy, so I'll go with that.
Durge - I knew youd say that, but I was just making
sure. I noticed you haven't drawn many PT characters. Are you
not inspired by the films (couldnt be!), or would you like
to finish up the OT characters first?
Cable - I do them as they're
ordered. I don't really have any agenda for what characters I
do when. So the lack of Prequel characters is really just a testament
to the shoddy quality and low popularity of those films.
Durge - Im going to give you three terms. Tell
me the first thing that comes to mind as you read each of them:
Durge - I was thinking something along the lines of
[1] sucks [2] sucks [3] sucks. Now that Ive mentioned AFA,
I guess Ill go into collectibles. What is your favorite
thing in your collection? What is the strangest thing in your
collection?
Cable - My favorite thing
is my SW 20-back Fett offer C-3PO Cromalin. The strangest thing?
Man... I have some strange things. The 3PO tape dispenser is
always a winner.
Durge - From what I know, and correct me if Im
wrong, you are mainly a vintage collector. Do you have any interest
in the modern Hasbro line?
Cable - Actually, I was a
modern completist up until just about Episode2 figures started
coming out. Yep... I flushed tens of thousands of dollars down
the toilet on that crap. I remember back in the RASSCM days pushing
for the POTF wave with Tarkin and Weequay to be dubbed the "Weequay
Wave." But then all [of] these dorks wanted to call it the
"Tarkin Wave" with Tarkin being the most important
character. Eventually we settled on the "Tarquay Weekin
Wave."
Since E2 I've
started picking them up more selectively. I only grab the ones
I "really like" - except in weak moments after I haven't
found anything in forever and I pick up junk like Yoda and the
Padawans.
I do LOVE...
just LOVE the Clone Wars cartoon figures. Those kick ass.
Durge - I'm glad you brought up the Clone Wars cartoon.
What do you think of its unique style? What do you think of the
actual story line? And, I'm almost afraid to ask this, but, what
do you think of Durge?
Cable - I thought you told
me to bring up the Clone Wars cartoon. That was the script, right?
I love the visual
style. I've enjoyed Genndy's stuff going back to Dexter's Lab
(even if the one Monkey episode was a rip-off of an old Marvel
Thing comic). I think it works great for SW.
The story line...
not too bad. I guess the best you can do in 30 minutes.
Durge... he's
SW's answer to Tetsuo. He doesn't quite fit in the SW Universe,
though.
Durge - Youll have to draw me a picture of Durge
sometime. I just need to get something straight before we go
on. If toast always falls butter side down, and cats always land
on their feet, what would happen if you strapped some toast to
a cats back?
Cable - I'm not nearly drunk
enough to answer that question.
Durge - Speaking of drunk... I know you generally do
not give out any upcoming secrets about the Cantina comic strip,
but this is an exclusive, once in a lifetime interview... Do
you have any spoilers for the rest of the year? Will someone
be killed (again)? Will someone new be (hehe, newbie) introduced?
What is the fate of Oznemoc (poor bastard)?
Cable - I don't plan that
far ahead. I came up with the idea for this week's strip Sunday
night. That's what I do just about every week. So I can't tell
you what's in store, other than that Oznemoc will continue to
be the object of the torture and ridicule he so richly deserves,
and that I hope more of my lazy-ass readers will submit some
story ideas for the stinkin thing.
Durge - Well thanks for your time. It was an interesting
experience.
Cable - Apparently we have
a far different threshholds for what qualifies as "interesting."
Try this crap again and I'm kicking you off the site.
What a friggin
waste of space... I'm going to bed.
