Action Figures & Their Beers - Let's rock!

RED ROCK MINISERIES!

I’ve been wanting to do these beers for a while now, but haven’t been able to match up all the beers with action figures. Oh, well. Like the previously-covered Hunter’s Brewery, the Red Rock Brewery is a family-run micro-brewery that operates out of a converted barn on a farm in a town not too far up the road from I live in now. They’ve been in business since 2006, producing hand-made, bottle-conditioned ales. While I can’t cover them all in this series (because it’s damned difficult to make action figure connections with the names the beers are given), I've picked out a few good ones to get you interested in the brewery and all its wares, starting with . . . .

RED ROCK BITTER

The majority of rocks and soil in our area of the country (where this beer is brewed) are composed of red, iron-rich sandstone. I reckon that might make the Jawas, who live in the red-rock arroyos of Tatooine, feel a bit at home. The only problem with that analogy is that according to Wuher (in his story from Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina), “a simple beer would make a Jawa shrivel up like a slug.” Poor bastiches.

“A well balanced copper coloured bitter with a pleasant hop aroma,” says the label. Well, I can’t fault them on that, apart from the fact that they need a couple of hyphens and a comma in that description. Red Rock Bitter froths like crazy, and it’s sometimes very difficult to pour out without getting any yeast sediment with the beer. Still, it’s a bloody nice beer, hand-made, rich and tangy, a middling 4.2% ABV, and nowhere near as bitter and hoppy as some other beers on the market. Oh, yes ? and they make quite a few other beers, as well, some of which will be covered in the following weeks . . . .
