BRAIN’S S.A.
Another extremely tenuous action figure connection, I reckon those Super-Articulated Clone Wars Clone Troopers needed to unwind with a beer once in a while. Yeah, I know. I’m really stretching the premise to the breaking point, ain’t I? But even genetically-engineered, 11-year-old superhuman killing machines need to relax, and if you’ve got an artificially-shortened lifespan, you’ll want to make every second count. And to do that, you’ll want to experience the bestest and most intense experiences you can.

This is going to sound a bit strange, but Brain’s SA is a very, very, very beery beer. It’s actually hard to describe, even for someone with a sesquipedalian and magniloquent lexicon. But it’s as if the makers of Brain’s SA took note of every molecular component that makes up a beer’s flavour, and amped them all up to the Nth degree. It’s like a beer version of those Spitting Image puppets from the 1980s: all the notable features are wildly exaggerated for your sheer enjoyment. It’s like your first memorable sip of your dad’s beer when you were a tyke, and your as-yet unblunted young taste buds caught the full force of an adult beverage and burned the experience directly into your synapses. It’s like discovering beer again for the first time. And for such a strongly-flavoured brew, it has a remarkably low-key tangy aftertaste, with almost no hint of bitterness.
Brewed in Wales using pale and crystal malts and Challenger, Goldings, and Fuggles hops, with the slight aroma of harder liquor to the nose, this premium ale grabs you forcefully by the mouth and mercilessly beats your tongue into submission. Only it does so in a way that brings only pleasure, and no pain. It’s 4.2% ABV, which is less alcohol content than many of the beers I’ve reviewed, but with a taste like this, who cares?
Drink this if you also like: Any other powerfully tasty beer, or feeling like you’re trying your very first beer all over again, no matter how many times you drink it.
