Star Wars After Dark (Wed)

My flight took off shortly before 10:00 my time, so I touched down at John Wayne airport shortly after 12 pacific time. I gathered my luggage and headed out to meet the shuttle. After collecting all of the riders, the shuttle departed to start dropping everyone off at their assigned hotels. One of the stops took us right near the convention center, so I got to see it without all the Celebration banners hanging out front (it didn't look nearly as appealing). The driver dropped me off at my hotel, I checked in, then went to my room and took a nap. I had thought about doing a little afternoon sightseeing, but I wasn't expecting California to be so cold this time of year. I heard it was actually warmer in Chicago than it was here!

I woke up around 6:00 pm and headed out. I had my ticket for the "Secrets of the Empire" at 7:15, and supposedly the address of "The Void" was right down the street from my hotel, so I opted to walk. As I began my trek, the sidewalk I was on was right next to a long row of bushes, and on the other side of them, the ground dropped down a bit to where it met a huge fence covered in green mesh. It was very hard to make out what was on the other side, but I knew what it was, the shuttle driver had pointed it out on our way to the hotel…It was the ongoing construction of "Galaxy's Edge".

I was periodically using my phone's GPS to guide me to "Downtown Disney", where "The Void" was located. It showed the street I needed to turn onto was just ahead, so I kept walking. After I felt I had walked far enough, I checked the GPS again and it showed I had passed the street! So I started heading back the way I came. Checked my phone again, and it said I had passed the street yet again! I couldn't understand how I had missed something as big as a street twice now, so this time I opted to walk and not take my eyes off of the GPS as much as possible. When I got to the point where it said I was to turn, I looked around and there was no street there! I couldn't understand what was going on until I looked up, and saw the street I needed to turn on was actually an overpass. Now how was I supposed to get up there??? Fortunately a security guard saw me walking back and forth and asked what I was trying to find. I told him, and he directed me to walk through a parking lot which was across the street, and then just follow the signs to "Downtown Disney".

Upon arriving there, one first has to go through metal detectors before being allowed into the myriad rows of shops and restaurants. Once I cleared the security checkpoint, I immediately headed for "The Void", and upon finding it, decided to sightsee a bit as I still had some time. I stopped in the huge Disney Store, but found nothing I needed to spend my money on. Once my time drew near, I checked in and was teamed up with two other guys, one who had done this before, and one who had not, but his friend brought him here for his birthday to try it out. The whole experience was just as much fun as it was in Orlando, and this time, they actually had "SOTE" shirts for sale!

After my time there was over, I strolled around the area just to see what there was to see. I stopped at a little café and ordered a shrimp Po'boy sandwich. Then I headed into the Lego store and bought a few Star Wars Lego keychains. I thought about catching a movie at the AMC Theater there, but the films and their remaining showtimes just weren't convenient for me. Before departing, I stopped at a street vendors cart and got myself a footling corn dog (aside from the sandwich, I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast). Once I left, I got turned around and headed off in the wrong direction. Not recognizing anything familiar, I realized my error and started heading back the other way. On my walk back to my hotel, I passed the huge green mesh-covered fence once again and wished I could just get a peek as to what was on the other side. But by now it was really dark, and seeing anything without the aid of a flashlight would have been impossible, and the use of said item would only alert everyone to what I was trying to do. Not wanting to spend the rest of my short trip here in jail, I just kept walking. Upon arriving back at the hotel, I got ready for bed and for what would be a long, and hopefully eventful day on Thursday.
