Mark Hamill...You SUCK!!! Posted by: Jedi Tronzo 07.21.04 12:01am Well, with San Diego Comicon coming up this week I would like to extend a big %$#& you to Mark Hamill and to our friends at C2Ventures. Now I know some of you are thinking "Hey Jeditronzo, that's kinda harsh, don't you think?"
"NO, its not!" For those of you that don't know who Mark Hamill is, he was the star of the "famous" Comic Book the Movie and he played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy. I turned Comic Book the Movie off after about the first 5 minutes it was so bad. Our good buddy, the famous Mark Hamill will be signing autographs at Comicon this weekend for a whole whopping 2 hours. Usually, Mr. Hamill will not sign any Star Wars items. I don't know why, since Star Wars is what made him famous. I wonder why he is so gracious to sign Star Wars items this week? It may because ol' Ben and Phil from C2V are going to charge you an astonishing $85 a pop. Oh, it gets even better. For $85 dollars Mark Hamill will only sign an official 11" x 14" print from C2V. He will not sign any other item.
C'mon Mark, get off your high horse. It's us fans that keep Luke Skywalker and Star Wars alive. And just like the night the lights went out in Georgia, so did your career. I ask you... when will you ever embrace your fans and meet and sign autographs for the true Star Wars fans that grew up wanting to be a Jedi Knight just like their hero Luke Skywalker? I was one of those kids Mark. Hopefully, some day I'll get to meet you and maybe you'll sign my Star Wars item that I have wanted autographed since I was young.

CC.com bandwidth theft rampant Posted by: Bill Cable 07.21.04 12:01am I just love examining my access stats to see where CreatureCantina.com stretches its tentacles. Our images have been linked to a bunch of new and interesting places. To start off, some Cable Original art was posted over in the forums of the very popular web comic "Penny Arcade." To be linked from "Penny Arcade"... that's just coolness.
http://www.penny-arcade.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=68465
In the "I don't know how the hell these people find these things" category, I don't know how the hell these people found these things. Here's a link to one of Sandy's Quick Shots from March, followed by an even more puzzling link to a photo of President George H. W. Bush from (I think) one of Marblehead's stories, also back in March.

A photo of Bush 41??? I mean... how did anyone dig that one out of our catacombs???
Another link... well nothing's more flattering than being called somebody's "Favorite Artist..." as I was in this thread over at JediDefender:
http://www.jedidefender.com/...action=display;threadid=4749
Finally, it looks like CreatureCantina.com is making inroads with the French! The following two links come from some French-language web site. The first links to my Wampa original art. The second, to one of my earliest "The Cantina" comic strips. Unfortunately you need to log in to view the threads... so unless you're motivated enough to create an account you won't see much when you click on them.

I guess that just about wraps it up. Just remember... you link to us and we're bound to find out about it!!

Some Butt-Ugly Cable Original Art!!! Posted by: Bill Cable 07.21.04 12:01am I'm pleased to present yet another "Cable Original" Masterpiece! This one is of the ugliest inhabitants of Bespin... the lowly Ugnaughts. And no, I didn't use "The Cantina's" own Oznemoc. This art was primarily inspired by the tusked Ugnaught from the vintage cardback, at the request of the art's new owner. As you can guess that he's a Vintage collector... and I always love taking money from Vintage collectors! That means they're not spending it on the figures I'm trying to snipe on eBay!!
Check out my latest windfall in the "Cable Original" Star Wars Art Gallery!!!

Guess who forgot to write his comic strip intro until the very last minute. Posted by: Bill Cable 07.28.04 12:01am Aw crap on a stick. Enjoy this week's "The Cantina" Comic Strip anyway!!!!

NASA photographs distant "small moon" Posted by: Bill Cable 07.28.04 12:01am NASA's Cassini spacecraft just transmitted photos of what reportedly is a "small moon" in the outer reaches of our solar system. But they were unable to explain the erratic orbit demonstrated by the satellite. NASA spokesman Ned Farnsworth described the orbit as "tentative... for some reason it seems to change position... almost as will. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was heading towards Earth. But that's impossible."

SNEAK PEAK Episode 3 Footage!!! Posted by: Bill Cable 07.28.04 12:01am One of our moles over at RebelScum passed along this TOP-SECRET segment of footage from "Revenge of the Sith." Trust me, you're not prepared for what you're about to see...

I never knew an R2 unit could server as a fog machine and a laser show projector SIMULTANEOUSLY!!!

Interview with Lumpy - A CC.com Exclusive! Posted by: Durge 07.28.04 12:01am It's been a while since The Star Wars Holiday Special graced television sets everywhere, but CreatureCantina.com managed to find one of its biggest, rather smallest stars, Lumpy!
Durge - Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to join me for an interview.
LW - It's my pleasure. Fact is my contract states that I have to promote this TV special until I'm 30.
Durge - How old are you now?
LW - 29
Durge - Only one more year then!
LW - Oh Lord.
Durge - Are you still in touch with Mala or Itchy?
LW - I hate to be the one to tell you this, but Itchy died from an overdose incident. His funeral was small and very few people attended. I hear Mala is a pRon star now, though.

Top 15 Search Terms for CC.com Posted by: Bill Cable 07.28.04 12:01am I normally don't do the "Top 10" thing. I mean sure... I've done it before... but there are other staff members who have sort of marked that territory already (kinda like the celebrity interview territory). But seeing as this week most of the staff decided to slack off, I had to put together something. So here it is.
We have a pretty nice statistics package here that I examine pretty regularly. It gives us the basics like number of unique visitors and all that. But it also give us referral URLs (that's how I know who's stealing bandwidth), and our top search engine phrase hits.
And you'd be surprised by some of the phrases people search for that lead them to CreatureCantina.com. I mean... from sick & twisted to just completely off-the-wall. Interested? Well here they are... the Top 15 actual search engine phrases that lead people to CreatureCantina.com:
- star wars humour that s actually funny
- gungan sex toy
- my collection of pr0n
- cheese pants star wars
- star wars r2-d2 stripper
- aaron mcgruder bio
- princess leia porn drawing

This one's for Carida!! Posted by: Bill Cable 08.04.04 12:01am First off... props to the staff this week on a very visual update! Great work guys! So how's the resident comic strip artist, stricken with writer's block, supposed to follow up such creativity? You gotta draw on your experience! So I thought back on my interactions with the good guys from Garrison Carida of the Fighting 501st. And how could I not be inspired by that bunch of goofballs?
So... wanna see what the Trooper life is really like? Check out this week's "The Cantina" Comic Strip!!!!

A smattering of Quick Draws Posted by: Steve "Solo" Rensi 08.04.04 12:01am Yes, it's my triumphant return to CC.com. God I missed it. And that's kinda sad... Oh, well I hope my return is welcome anyway. To celebrate my return, I present you, my loyal fans with 4, yes 4 of my quick draws.

"What's That Chewie...Kill Them All?

"We do not S-S-S-Suck."

"I Really Believe, Slowly But Surly He Is Going Insane..."

The Original Bounty Hunters Posted by: Marblehead 08.04.04 12:01am The Star Wars mythology is filled with many sorts of demented characters who call themselves "Bounty Hunters." These guys have names that are familiar to nearly every Star Wars fan. Names such as IG-88, Dengar, 4-LOM, Boba Fett, Aurra Sing and Yak Face. Let's not forget the lesser known bounty hunters that paved the way for those who now use that term as their descriptor.
Individuals such as Bounty Hunter pioneer Nancy Walker who began her quest for those Bounty paper towels back in 1970, way before Star Wars, and didn't let them go until 1990.
Bounty Hunters of the INS who caught that little boy and sent him back to his home on the island.
Don't forget farmers Peter and Laurie who are always on the hunt for that bountiful crop.
These are only a few bounty hunting patriarchs before the terminology was stolen for use within the Star Wars realm. Remember these founders and mention them in the tales you hand down to your future generations.

Erased from history Posted by: Bill Cable 08.11.04 12:01am You think you're unhappy about the changes George Lucas has made to the Original Trilogy? Well you're just a fanboy... think of what the people who actually worked on the originals must think!! Get an idea of their pain in this week's "The Cantina" Comic Strip!!!!

You seek Yoda? Posted by: Bill Cable 08.11.04 12:01am You say you're looking for a great warrior? I'm willing to bet you sure as hell weren't looking to see this much of him!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5912407812
My Eyes! MY EYES!!!!! Can somebody please tell me who on God's green earth decided it'd be a good idea to create a statue of Yoda wearing NOTHING BUT A THONG?????!!!! Who would think we'd see a naked Yoda statue before we saw a naked Padme statue... certainly not me!!! And it's so disturbingly detailed... from the tips of his ears to his little black banana hammock... it literally leaves NOTHING to the imagination. Now that this image has been burned into my retinas, I'm sure I'll be having wonderful nightmares for years to come. Thanks so much to the "artist"... I'm sure people are banging down his door hoping to spend the $200 this seller claims the statue is worth. Where's a bottle of Jack Daniel's when you really need one...?

What collecting is really all about. Posted by: Baldy 08.11.04 12:01am Collecting is something almost anyone can identify with whether it's tools, shoes, pets, games or toys. For some people it is just a small part of their lives and they add to it either unintentionally or over a long period of time. Others collect things with a bit more determination and get things on a regular basis. And sometimes you have the rabid collector, a frame of mind that MUST have everything to finish off the collection.
I have come across all of these types in my days as a collector of Star Wars toys and I must say that in that genre, all of them have something in common 95% of the time. And that is a love for either the movies, the toys, or just the fact of the nostalgia and memories of their past that had Star Wars woven into it in some form or another.
This feeling is one thing that brings me to my point of this article. I am pretty sure most people that are reading this will have had similar experiences as mine and if not, I hope you do soon. I am speaking of the bonds between collectors that bring us closer and let us be ourselves and help one another without expecting anything in return.
Today, 8-9-04, I received a box in the mail from my "boss" Bill Cable. I had not ordered any artwork or sex toys from him so I wasn't sure why I was getting this. Upon opening it, I found a most welcome and totally unexpected surprise: An unused Unleashed Bossk cardback that was given out at San Diego Comic Con and signed by the artist! I had not even mentioned this to him or anyone else but other friends had mentioned it to me. This was so out of the blue I was taken aback. I emailed Bill thanking him like mad and he replied with a "No problem, someone from PSWCS went out there and got some of these and I figured you wanted one for your focus so I talked him out of an extra."

CreatureCantina.com at the SDComic-Con!!!! Posted by: Bill Cable 08.11.04 12:01am The San Diego Comic-Con was Star Wars central this July, and despite being stuck in the wastelands of central Pennsylvania I was able to reach out and get my greedy little claws in on the action. I sent one of my minions (the recently 33-year old Bob Raspet) out to San Diego with a single task to complete... get as many photos of celebrities holding the "CreatureCantina.com SUCKS!" banner as humanly possible.
To my astonishment, Bob actually accomplished his task! I say "to my astonishment" because I get people who promise to get me photos all the time who end up sending my jack squat. But Bob turned out to be a man of his word. That just goes to show the good character of Pennsylvania Collectors.
Bob suckered... er... persuaded two ROTJ actors to pose with the sign... but you won't recognize either of them! That's because these guys worked under inches of foam rubber and latex. One was Lando's trusty co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon, and the other was inside the Jabba puppet... I don't know... moving his ass-end or something along those lines. It's safe to say that Return of the Jedi just wouldn't have been the same without their contributions! Though I suppose we'll eventually find out after Lucas decides to replace EVERY alien in the OT with a CG rendering. CreatureCantina.com is thrilled to present the two latest additions to our "Cantina Celebrities" page, David Barclay and Mike Quinn!!!!

Alien v/s Predator Posted by: Bill Cable 08.18.04 12:01am My motto should by "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours." I'm all about whoring for those who whore for me. Take for example my good friend John Hamm from over at http://www.8thpassenger.com/ - a web site dedicated to the Alien movies and collectibles. If you scroll down a bit you can see that John gave me a little plug last week. One good turn deserves another, and my turn comes in the form of not only the link I just posted, but also in this week's Alien-inspired edition of "The Cantina" Comic Strip!!!!

Happy anniversary PSWCS!!! Posted by: Bill Cable 08.18.04 12:01am So just how long can a group of 190 Star Wars geeks band together and co-exist, in harmony, before self-destructing in an orgy of pettiness, greed and ego? Apparently for at least 4 years. That's how long the Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society has been around. On Thursday August 19th, they'll celebrate their 4th anniversary.
What started as 10 people who met at the West Shore Public Library in Camp Hill has grown to nearly 200 collectors from all corners of Pennsylvania who E-mail each other daily to discuss the collecting hobby. The conversations range from bitching about workers hiding cases of new toys and selling them out the back door at Target, to whining about Hasbro's incompetency as a toy manufacturer, to lamenting their difficulties in finding the newest figures at retail prices. And the discussions are as interesting as they are diverse!!!
To top it off, the member meet once or twice a month to play with each other's toys.
Do you live in Pennsylvania? Does this sound like your kind of crowd? Well then you should head on over to PSWCS.com and sign up!

More comic thievery Posted by: Bill Cable 08.25.04 12:01am Would you look at that... I've gone and used somebody else's idea for my comic strip. But wait! That person also stole the idea!! It's a vicious circle, and getting worse. Will it ever end???!! See the next step in this week's edition of "The Cantina" Comic Strip!!!!

Looking for love in ALL the wrong places Posted by: Bill Cable 08.25.04 12:01am The CreatureCantina.com forums are dead. Nobody's posted there since May. That was until about two weeks ago. Two weeks ago we got some SPAM in the forums. You see... some "woman" posted a message advertising a mail-order bride web site.
I mean... what idiocy! Does she think Star Wars collectors are a bunch of lonely, single guys who are desperate enough to resort to the Internet to find some anonymous woman willing to marry the first person who will pay the fee? Does she really think we have thousands of dollars to waste? Doesn't she have any idea at off of the type of person who reads this site??!!
Not that anybody would have any interest in the thing, but if you'd like a laugh you can read the ad here:

Happy Birthday Baldy!! Posted by: Bill Cable 08.25.04 12:01am Congratulations to Baldy for trudging through yet another year. Tomorrow he'll scratch another notch on his prison cell wall. So join me in wishing him well. If you E-mail him, he might even let you know where to send presents.

Top 10 Reasons that Revenge of the Sith will suck Posted by: Baldy 08.25.04 12:01am
- Hayden Christiansen is in it.
- Padme STILL isn't naked.
- Jar Jar won't die.
- Many, many hot Jedi chicks will die.
- C3PO will be even MORE annoying than in Episode 2.
- R2D2 STILL hasn't been fitted with a toilet function for those long romps through the woods with a troop of soldiers.
- Did I mention Hayden is in the movie?
- George Lucas is STILL calling the shots.
- There will be 86 sculpts of each main character in toy form and they will all be short packed EXCEPT Jar Jar.
And the number one reason ROTS will suck:
- Bossk isn't scheduled to be in it! What a ripoff! ;^)
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Baldy

A VERY SPECIAL Cantina Comic Strip Posted by: Bill Cable 09.01.04 12:01am I've had lots of people tell me that my art sucks. But this week we have something special... this week somebody actually stood up to do something about it!! Somebody actually volunteered to "draw" my comic strip this week. And not just any somebody... a REAL somebody. This week I collaborated with the one and only Tyler "RocketJawa" Ham. You might ask "Who the hell is Tyler Ham?" Well Tyler Ham is a true artist of the 21st century... he's a digital effects artist whose work has appeared in several MAJOR Hollywood movies including the fantastic HELLBOY!!!!! That's right... HELLBOY!!!!! And he actually volunteered to work on my comic strip!! Can you believe it???!!! I'm still pinching myself. Check out Tyler's fantastic take on "The Cantina" in this week's special edition of "The Cantina" Comic Strip!!!!

The Top Seven Strangest Changes to the new Star Wars DVD Set Posted by: Durge 09.01.04 12:01am
- Han and Greedo work out their differences and the scene ends with them shaking hands.
- All scenes containing the phrase "May the force be with you", have been replaced with the phrase "May your children have high midi-chlorian counts".
- Chewbacca's yelling is now translated through subtitles. Some of it is censored, however.
- The Emperor will now be included in the ending "Spirit" scene. Instead of being a wrinkled old man, he will be featured as an infant being held by Anakin.
- All scenes in which 3 X-Wings are aligned have been removed so as to avoid any type of "XXX" reference.
- A cantina patron is shown asking for a cup of "Jawa Juice".
- A pile of crap is shown in the Mos Eisley spaceport as homage to the crap Jar-Jar Binks stepped in.

New Cable Original!! Posted by: Bill Cable 09.01.04 12:01am Did you happen to read the story about me going to the OSWCC Summer Social and donating some art? No? You should... it was a good read. I joked the OSWCC guys for having no taste in art and berated some of the donations they received. It was all in good fun... I hope they don't take it personal.
But anyway... I suppose you're wondering exactly what character I drew for my donation, aren't you? I won't keep you in suspense... I drew the Trash Compactor monster... tentacles flailing and all that. I am thrilled by how it turned out. It was a pleasure to draw... though it involved a TON of work! All that inking... I worked on it night after night after night. And I'm sure you'll appreciate the end result...

CreatureCantina.com invades Ohio Posted by: Bill Cable 09.01.04 12:01am This past weekend I was generous. I donated some of my original art to the OSWCC Summer Social. Well... "donated" in a sense. See... I went to the social... took my share of their food and prizes... so I guess it was more of an "exchange" than a "donation." But hey... I gave up some choice art for free, call it what you will.
And it's a damn good thing I got some swag myself... because I was pretty upset when the raffle came around for my donation. They had a table full of prizes from sponsors and members, and there was some decent stuff there. In past socials I've attended, my art donations always went among the top 4 or 5 choices. And I was feelin' the love. But at the OSWCC social... it was different. I stood there and fumed as ingrate after ingrate passed over my gorgeous original art and pulled absolute crap off the table! I mean... just worthless stuff ahead of my awesome art. I was flabbergasted! I mean... people grabbing random toys you can pull off any peg at any Wal*mart... and crappy RebelScum and TFN polo shirts... and Tupperware!! What were these people thinking?? The only saving grace was that when someone finally did take the art, it was the guy who I talked to earlier in the day who told me how much he loves my art, and that the site has improved dramatically in the last year thanks to Sandy's Quick Shots and GPD. So that was cool to see... see it go to someone who'd really appreciate it. Here's the happy winner...
I walked away with a fantastic prize myself... a high-quality acrylic display case from Oscar's Cases. They donated a Vintage Slim case that matched my other 30+, so I had to grab it. Now my ROTJ65B C-3PO is safely stored in an Oscar Case just like the rest of my 3PO collection.
So I went and returned from the OSWCC Summer Social unscathed. It was great fun. I really loved seeing some of my old OSWCC buddies and talking collecting with them for a day. And I can safely say that the three Bills from Pennsylvania thoroughly enjoyed the food and fellowship!! Thanks to OSWCC... you classless, art-hating bastards!! No... I'm not bitter.

Stealing from the best Posted by: Bill Cable 09.08.04 12:01am If you're going to use an American Institution as inspiration for a Cantina comic strip idea, you might as well steal from the best! That's what Rob did for the idea he sent into me. Of course, I had to write all the dialogue... all he said was "Why don't you do one where somebody does just like Bart..." But it was an idea that never occurred to me, so his efforts were appreciated. See what I ended up doing with it in this week's edition of "The Cantina" Comic Strip!!!!

Dealer/Bodybuilder relationship confirmed!! Posted by: Baldy 09.08.04 12:01am THIS JUST IN!!
Well, it seems that my Pr0n Sources have just hit paydirt. A while back, a good buddy of the Star Wars online community was said to have been VERY close to a Hollywood Superstar we all know as Lou Ferrigno. Of course, not everyone was quick to accept this news because Lou is such a cool guy and was thought not to travel the circles that this other guy did.
BUT, I have an exclusive photo of Lou that proves his affiliation with our good friend. I am not completely sure but I think this photo was taken at a Hollywood event near the Pr0n district. That pool looks real familiar.....
So there you have it ! Solid proof that Lou does indeed know our friend and maybe, just maybe, he is closer to him than we all think........

Need an idea for a "Cable Original?" Here you go... Posted by: Bill Cable 09.08.04 12:01am When I attended the OSWCC Summer Social a couple weeks ago, I got into a conversation with a guy who said he'd really like to reserve a "Cable Original" drawing, but he couldn't think of a good character. I can understand with over 80 characters Retired that one might have a bit of trouble... but if you think about it there are TONS of great characters still to be drawn. If you want some of my art for your collection but are drawing a blank on who you want... well let me give you some ideas!!
Here's my list of cool Cable Originals that haven't been Reserved:
- Luke Bespin - The coolest Luke of all!! And nobody's ever asked about him. One problem, I think, is my spotty record on my early Lukes. Maybe people look at the Luke Original drawing I did seven years ago and think "ugh." I've gotten much better, now! Check out my more recent Luke Jedi cloaked or Luke Stormtrooper. Even the slightly awkward Luke Jedi drawing should inspire confidence!! Come on... it's the first time Luke faced Vader... what could be more awesome??
- Oola - Talk about a no-brainer! A sexy chick dressed in nothing but fishnet?? What are you people thinking not snapping this character up???
- Any other half-naked Twi'lek - Miss out on Oola? Well, there's half-nekkid Twi-leks all over the damn place. Those blue ones massaging Sebulba. That red one in Watto's box seats at the Podrace. A whole bunch in the night club on Coruscant.
- Boushh - Leia in Boussh outfit was one of my favorite Vintage figures, and one of the best costumes from ROTJ. Awesome-looking. Badass. This is a "Cable Original" that needs to be done!!
- Walrusman - All the major Cantina patrons have been immortalized as "Cable Originals" except for one. Where's the love for Walrusman? Or Ponda Baba, for you new figure collectors? Or is that Panda Boba? Pando Babo? Damn these new-fangled POTF2 names!!!
- Gonk Droid - The "Gonk" or Power Droid has been "Requested" by a guy, but it's still available to anybody since he hasn't paid the deposit yet. This is another of my favorite Vintage figures... I loved the clicky legs. I'd love the chance to draw him!!
- Snowtrooper - The Hoth Stormtrooper is another of those characters which has been requested but never reserved... and that sucker's been on the "Requested" list for damn near 5 years! I don't even know if the guy who requested it is still alive!! So if you want a cool Imperial, don't be afraid to ask for this one.
- Luke Hoth - Another awesome Luke. Think about it. Hanging upside-down. Stretching for his lightsaber. Beaten. Bloody. Talk about awesome inspiration for art...
- TIE Pilot - Here's another long-time requestee. I need to bug these guys to pay up! Until they do, this character could easily be yours! And what could be cooler for your wall than the black-clad bringers of death from above??!!
- Asajj Ventress - She's the sexiest bald-headed white-skinned Sith assassin out there. Who wouldn't want a drawing of her??
- Guri - Hot android babe. What else needs to be said?
- Lando Skiff Guard - I always though Lando's Skiff Guard outfit was the coolest thing he wore in the OT.
- Gamorrean Guard - I'm tired of writing crap, so let's just say he's cool.
- Leia Original - Of all the Leias I've done, who'd a thunk the one I missed was the first Leia in her braless, bouncy white gown?
Feel inspired, now? Then send me some money!!

DragonCon 2004! The skinny on all the goods. Posted by: Baldy 09.08.04 12:01am Well, DC 2004 has come and gone and I am home again. All in all, it was a good trip. I left a day early to beat out bad weather for the 5 hour drive home but things seemed to be winding down on Sunday afternoon anyways.
I got to Atlanta on Thursday and called Mike Chomyn to get situated in our room. After dropping off my stuff in Joe Y's room, we went downstairs to find the others. Oscar D., Shane T. and Karlee were already onsite and were hanging out in the registration area waiting to get passes. After we got them, we went walking around the hotel. Its a big hotel, The Hyatt Regency, and a lot of things were going on.

Hurry up, elevator! We gots places to go!!
Down in the bowels of the hotel is where most of the gaming and collectors discussions were being held. Up one floor from that is where more rooms were setup for meetings as well as some dealer tables and such. The main floor below the lobby had really large rooms where bands would play, costume shows were and the occasional meeting for large groups like Star Wars and LOTR.

A comic to make you laugh Posted by: Bill Cable 09.15.04 12:01am This week's comic is a testament to the fact that if you send me a half-assed idea and beg to see it in print repeatedly... week after week... all hours of the day... through long, indecipherable E-mails and PMs on forums of a couple different web sites... well I might just cave in and do it. DragonCon 2004: The Next Epic Adventure! Posted by: Baldy 09.15.04 12:01am Last week I left off basically on Thursday/Friday and stopped. This installment should bring us up to speed on most of the rest. Now I may be off on what exactly happened on what day so please bear with me. All the events below did happen but they may have not happened on the day I have stated below. These things happen when you are old and also when you stay up too late past your regular bedtime. Please address all complaints to Bill Cable because he loves hate mail.
Friday started out late because we were up late. I didn't get up till after almost 11:00 am or so. After getting ready I headed out to see who else was up. NO ONE was. After heading downstairs for camera batteries, I saw Chris G. and he was headed back up to get the others. Since all of us weren't moving yet, some people went for breakfast and others didn't. I opped to hang back and just get a snack and wait for lunch. Here is a few of us at breakfast/lunch/food.
Back at the hotel we basically just messed around the dealer rooms and such. Lots of cool stuff to see and it was very busy on the first day. We actually spied some vintage stuff at one booth and he even had a CDN boxed Die Cast Falcon. Too bad we found out it was a reseal and not a good one at that. But the guy had some cool Micronauts as well and it was neat to see those again. I also found a Gentle Giant Bossk bust I wanted so I grabbed it. Shane did a search for some comics and others went to bother the autograph people. Me on the other hand went straight for these!
Can you blame me? Hot, sexy Japanese "film" stars. Read into that what you will.

A fundraising drive you can all get behind!! Posted by: Bill Cable 09.15.04 12:01am It's that time of year again - fundraising time! This year's charity is the "Bill Cable likes to buy sh*t" fund. You see, the "Bill Cable likes to buy sh*t" fund is at dangerously low levels right now... months of buying sh*t like 10 loose Emperor's Royal Guard figures with no custom cardbacks to mount them on and sell them have depleted the "Bill Cable likes to buy sh*t" fund drastically. It's gotten to the point where Bill Cable can't buy just about any sh*t at all. It's a sad, sad situation...
But you can help!! How, you ask? Well, CreatureCantina.com is sponsoring half a dozen auctions on eBay... YOU CAN BID ON THEM!! That's right... you can help us replenish the "Bill Cable likes to buy sh*t" fund!!! And not only will you be helping a very worthy cause, you'll be picking up some choice swag if you win! Here's what you could have at your doorstep a week from now:
So look into your heart, and see if you can find it in yourself to support the "Bill Cable likes to buy sh*t" fund. I mean come on... I don't make a penny off this damn site!!! If you like the laughs, why not bump up my bids by a dollar?? You're just shilling the sucker who ends up winning. And if you win... well you'd better damn well pay up else I'll come to your house and shoot out your kneecaps. Bid Today!!!

PROOF: People LOVE "The Cantina!!!!" Posted by: Bill Cable 09.22.04 12:01am I've promoted my comic strip as "beloved" from time to time. Exhaustive list of OT DVD changes!! Posted by: Bill Cable 09.22.04 12:01am I know a lot of you guys are really upset that the movie we grew up with was so drastically changed by George Lucas. You guys can just skip ahead to the next article. The rest of you, well... we've dug in and did the dirty work... documenting all the changes in the screen shots at the following link:
THE exhaustive list of OT DVD changes
The best change, IMHO... is this one!!
OK... maybe somebody else did the lion's share of the work, and we're just linking to them. So sue me. (Not you SA guys... I'm talking to my readers... please don't shut me down...)

Grande Finale of DragonCon 2004! Posted by: Baldy 09.22.04 12:01am Or not so grand, whatever. Since Isaac pretty much did his summary on TRG last week, I am just going to do a quick finish of Sunday. Some of the pictures and descriptions that follow were told to me and may not be true. I headed home early Sunday because of the impending hurricane that was supposed to be heading towards my home. I wanted to miss as much of the wind and rain as possible on the 5 hour drive back, so I cut my DC experience short. So I was not in attendance for a lot of the following.
The night before saw The Miss Klingon Contest and it was a bust compared to last year. We had only one female start to lurk thru the audience and as soon as we saw her, we all pointed to John A. and whooping and shouting, "He's over here!' John took off for parts unknown and wasn't seen again until much later.
Saturday night also saw the Mr. Star Wars contest. We had no idea what to think of it but decided to go anyways. It basically entailed 10 guys that were subjected to a pageant, then whittled down to 5. Then those 5 guys had to go thru some hoops. This contest was one of the funniest things we witnessed all day. One guy was holding a Sprite bottle and we didn't figure out why till someone asked what his favorite weapon was. he answered, "Why, my Sprite-saber of course!" After that, Jeff C had his man to root for. They did a Whose Line is it Anyway? bit for a while and that was good too. We screamed Sanford and Son and that got picked. The guy playing Lamont got nuthin but bashed by the guy playing Fred Sanford. Every other phrase was "You big dummy!". Here is a shot of 3 guys, our Spriteman in the middle. The guy to the right eventually won for a stunning death scream reminiscent of Luke from ESB. He even hit the floor and wriggled around for a bit.

Baldy's Meet & Greet! Posted by: Baldy 09.22.04 12:01am And now for my first Meet and Greet in a long while, I present the mystical, magical, mythical Tattooed Freak............
Baldy: What's your name?
ST: Shane Turgeon
Baldy: Where are you from?
ST: Originally, the end of a dirt road in the middle of nowhere Saskatchewan. That's in Canada. In 1991 I moved to Edmonton, which is where I currently call home. That's in Canada too.
Baldy: How many fingers and toes do you have?
ST: 10 of each although being from Saskatchewan, you'd probably wonder. Between the inbreeding and the frostbite I should either be plus or minus. Call me lucky.

The latest & greatest Cable Art Posted by: Bill Cable 09.22.04 12:01am So times when I post my newest art, I just kinda say I outdid myself. But this time... this drawing... I really outdid myself! And I'm not just saying that. Like I sometimes just say that. Really.
Of course, I should probably just let my art speak for me. I mean... don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk, right? Why ramble here about how great this latest piece is when all anyone really wants me to do is cut to the chase and give them the goods? I mean, you guys want to gaze at my art, not read a string of tired cliches about it. So I should get a move-on already... or something. All right, here's a link:
I think I did a particularly good job at capturing the seething menace of this soon-to-be iconic character. And I really like how I captured the detail in the arms and eyes. Of course, my scans only capture a fraction of that detail, so you'll have to take my word for it. Wait... don't that my word for it, take that of the owner of my latest creation:
Subject: AWESOME
Note:Grevious is incredible! I am so happy that I called dibbs first! Thanks, Bill!! -Todd
(Please ignore that he misspelled Grievous...)
Another satisfied customer! Isn't it time you called dibs on something? E-mail me today and reserve yours!!

A comic I just had to do Posted by: Bill Cable 09.29.04 12:01am I love you guys... I really do. And I know you love me, too. How do I know? You let me know! This past week, I got 4 different comic suggestions from 3 different people. That's love, man!
All the ideas were good, and I'll probably end up doing them all eventually. But one among them was just exceptional. I read it and immediately thought "of course!" You see, the whole joke... the whole pay-off is in the very first frame. And man, was it fun to do. Thanks to Beedo Sookcool for yet another great idea. See the magic in this week's "The Cantina" Comic Strip!!!!

Sandy's Quick Shots Posted by: Sandy Rivers 09.29.04 12:01am I know you're probably all wondering, "What happened to Sandy? Didn't he used to give us the goods every week without fail? Didn't he used to fulfill our lives with the sheer hilarity of his Quick Shot once every seven days, so that we could go on living on this miserable rock of a planet? Didn't he used to LOVE us, his dear readers?"
What can I say? The sun was in my eyes. Actually it wasn't so much the sun, but me busily busting my hump to keep the a/c on and food on the table.
No matter though. Come, my children ... suckle at my teat by feasting your eyes on this week's fabulous Quick Shot!
And if you guys wanna throw me a bone now and then and submit some ideas, you know where to find me. Bill can't bogart all the fan submissions! I call shotgun!

News Flash !! Pathetic is as pathetic does Posted by: Baldy 09.29.04 12:01am Now I know you think you have seen pathetic and so did I. But what follows HAS to be *THE* most pathetic cry for attention I have ever seen.
How exactly does a man get to the point of needing female companionship so badly that he runs a want ad? And, when he runs said want ad, how does the man decide on what publication to run it in? I am guessing that if you really want someone that is your equal in every aspect, you would want that ad to get exposure in a place that YOU are comfortable with.
The usuals are newspapers, indie magazines and local free papers. But when you see this ad, you will NEVER guess where I found it.
Yes indeed folks, this ad was found in THE main magazine for DragonCon 2004. It was prominently displayed on a page near the front of the ad section and was a quarter page size. Now, if memory serves me, a quarter page ad is not cheap. And over 3000 people EASILY will see this ad. It's not bad enough that this guy placed the ad to begin with but just look at the details in the ad to see his madness. Notice the cross and hearts in the background. Notice the outfit he is wearing. Notice the headband he has on. Notice the wonderful smirk on his face that just says "Hello ladies. Are you ready for the man of your prayers?"
Soon after first seeing this, the hilarity was what caught me. But after seeing it again a few more times, the utter horror struck me hard and I had to throw away my magazine for fear of being beset by dreams of the Riverdance Troupe dancing in my skull. It takes a man to see that he needs a woman, It takes a real man to act upon this. But what type of man does it take to go THIS far? It takes a very, very, very desperate man indeed.
I wonder if he got laid?
Baldy

POTF2.com spawns offspring Posted by: Bill Cable 09.29.04 12:01am I got this E-mail below, and knew our readers would love to hear about it...
Hey Bill,
How have you been?
In case, you haven't seen this yet...
POTF2.COM had a proto section that grew out of control, and is now its own website:
BEHIND THE TOYS
http://www.behindthetoys.com
It mainly focuses on SW, but covers protos from other toy lines too.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
--Aaron
Normally I'd be like "Yeah yeah... new site... whatever," but these guys actually have a pretty damn impressive bunch of protos there! I mean, it looks like a good week of CountChar eBay auctions!! And the pretty colors... so many pretty colors!!!
Anyways... if you like the protos, check out the site.

Celebration3 registration goes flawlessly! Posted by: Bill Cable 09.29.04 12:01am We here at CC.com feel strongly that we should give credit where credit is due. And frankly, we can't think of any organization more deserving of credit that GenCon; especially after how smoothly the first day of registration went for Celebration 3. You could tell they went out of their way to ensure they had sufficient computer resources to handle the hoards of anxious Star Wars fanatics.
Each fan's easy journey through registration began on the StarWarsCelebration.com web site. That site sent you to the GenCon registration web site... a URL we'll never forget: http://registration.gencon.com/celebration. When you clicked on that link, each member was invariably directed to the very useful web site here:
I personally saw that one very helpful page constantly for about 7 hours. And the kind people at support@regresourses.com were prompt and courteous in their responses to my E-mails. After my pleasant experiences on that page, I finally got through to this second helpful page:
Now who doesn't get that warm, fuzzy feeling every time they see that page? Ah... the memories. After flip-flopping between the top two pages, we really got down to business. After a simple and quick registration on the GenCon site, we were ready to go to the badge order page. And we got this.
Oh wait... that was just a minor glitch. That happened over and over. But really... after finally getting a graphic from the GenCon web site to come up, we were genuinely excited. It didn't matter if we could do anything on that page or not. After some patience and persistence, we finally got through to order our badge:
There it is! The form to order my badge! Aw crap... Software Error. Damn that ineffective fetchrow method!!! This same ordeal was repeated for the very snazzy exclusive Darth Vader foam topper thingie. Around 1am I was finished with my confirmation. Kudos to GenCon for this pleasant experience!!
